Valentine’s Day is just a couple of weeks away. It’s a great time for a fun DIY! Here are Pinterest props I’ve been drooling over - including their How-To links!
Make it as big or as small as you want, this DIY String Heart would look great in any Valentine’s Day window display or vignette. Play around with colours and materials. Tailor it to your own needs.
Simple. Light weight. Versatile.
Suspend it in just about any display. Use either a low temperature glue gun or pins to be able to change out the flowers if you ever tire of them.
My tips: Cover the foam heart in fabric to add a bit of visual lust from the side.
Want a full window display? Make a few of these gorgeous Hanging Flower Hearts to fully accent your store’s windows.
Imagine a bunch of these garlands strung up around mannequins in a Valentine’s Day window display! :)
Make a couple extra to decorate the cash desk, bringing the love inside and tying it all together.
My tips: Check your local craft store, as the link to their felt balls seems to be broken.
Want to add a bit of flair? Consider using a different material – perhaps some cute craft pompoms!
Versatile and reusable, this heart made with chicken wire on a frame is your answer to different window displays throughout the year.
My Tip: Make a frame with mitered corner joints for a more polished look.
I love a nice, full backdrop, and this one is super fun!
It’s been floating around Pinterest for a few years now - it gives you big bang for your buck. The fringe could be prepared at home to save some time.
In need of a quick decoration? This one’s a classic. Use these paper heart chains as an accent or fill a window with them.
My Tips: Use coloured staples to blend in with the paper. Also, use a variety of colours - or take it up a notch with pretty scrapbooking paper. The possibilities are endless!
For those of us in the northern hemisphere, Valentine’s Day is a winter celebration, so twigs are appropriate!
This simple DIY can be done on any scale. For a full-sized window display with mannequins, consider using dry brush, curly willow, or tall twigs - from a local hardware or craft store - and an oversized vase.
Okay, I know... We’re all getting tired of paper flowers, but this paper rose flower had to be included in my list.
It’s very well done, provides great instructions, with a professional finish. For Valentine’s Day, I think it’s okay to do one more paper flower craft.

Visual merchandising isn't just about selling more. It’s about inspiring the customer, giving them ideas, making them feel good, and making their lives easier.
Proper visual merchandising really is done for the customer, with the customer in mind and that’s the only way it can be truly effective.
We create displays in order to give customers a whole look, show them trends, and to create a feeling around the merchandise. We’re making their time shopping so much easier by pulling everything together for them, so be sure to layer the look right up to show options and make sure the merchandise is nearby and easy to pick up.
We’re inspiring customers to make their home an oasis, wardrobe beautiful, and gifts incredible. Placing ad-on items nearby helps them to round out their purchase and pull together the perfect package.
Keep the customer in mind when you’re merchandising your store. Remember how you’re helping them every time you set up a new display and you will be successful. After all, they’re why you’re doing what you’re doing, right?
It’s time to start formulating a plan to execute your holiday visual merchandising! Don’t forget to book your helpers to make sure they’ll all be there.

I first found Fixtures Close Up on Pinterest and now I look forward to my daily fixtures emails, so I asked Tony Kadysewski if I could share some of my favourites with you. He generously agreed, so here they are in no particular order.
Also... These are just the favorites I found, there are so many more gems all over the Fixtures Close Up blog. You can find everything from big box retail solutions to high end boutique solutions, so set aside some time to go digging!
This is a great DIY project for your store! Be sure to merchandise any unique configurations neatly to really maximize impact.
What a great industrial look for menswear! If you're not handy, though, be sure to get help from someone who is.
What a fun fixture to put together yourself and it wouldn't even be overly expensive!
What a fun display! This could be done anywhere in-store, just be sure it's a feature area. It could also be a fun backdrop in a simple window with a mannequin.
Okay, ordinary pegboard usually isn't the go-to material when we think of visual merchandising, but here it is looking good for menswear! This is pegboard done right.
Do you really want to make something feel special? Put it in a bell jar!
Ahhhh... Doesn't it just make sense?
I've loved this fixture from the first time I saw it and it makes a great DIY project for items sold in bulk!
Ahhhh... A good colour flow just makes my heart happy...
Add on selling at its best! They say visual merchandising is the silent sales person for a reason...

Last night, while watching the Grammys, I was thinking about how music inspires us, lifts us up while we're down, and comforts us in times of need. That's when I realized I should do this blog post that I've been considering for a long time!
This is just part one, I'm sure I will think of many more as time goes on. In the meantime, here are 5 songs I consider to be very inspiring to us business starters! Plus, one bonus! Be sure to scroll all the way to the end, I've saved the best for last.
5. Journey - Don't Stop Believing
This one's a classic and you'll hear it lots! Sorry, no official video to be found.
4. Bon Jovi - It's My Life
Okay, I realize I look like a total geek right now, but this one really gets ya pumped up!
3. Alicia Keys - Girl on Fire
This one's for all the great, strong women entrepreneurs out there.
2. Marty Casey & the Lovehammers - Casualty
This is a great pick-me-up song. I love it. Sorry, couldn't find an official video.
Last, but not least...
1. Incubus - Drive
This is one of my all-time favourites. This song always keeps me going and picks me up when I need it! Enjoy!
Now, here's a bonus one! It gets a little personal, so it didn't quite make my business cut, but it's definitely a good one and Fun. was recognized quite a bit at the Grammys last night.
Fun. - Carry On
I hope you enjoy and I'd love to see some of your favourites in the comments section!
